Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) faces one more hurdle

Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will likely start Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers if he fully clears the concussion protocol on Saturday.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Friday that being cleared by an independent physician is the last hurdle for Bridgewater to clear.

“Right now he’s progressed nicely — he’s cleared up to this point,” Fangio said after Friday’s practice. “They’ll decide (Saturday) for the final verdict.”

The team listed Bridgewater as questionable on the injury report. He was a full participant on Friday after being limited on Thursday.

Bridgewater was injured during last Sunday’s 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He is off to a strong start by completing 72.1 percent of his passes for 892 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Drew Lock will start if Bridgewater isn’t cleared. Lock was 12-of-21 passing for 113 yards and one interception against Baltimore.

Denver tight end Albert Okwuegbunam (hamstring) will miss the contest. Also listed as questionable are running back Melvin Gordon III (leg), receivers Diontae Spencer (chest) and Courtland Sutton (ankle) and cornerback Patrick Surtain II (chest).
