Reports: Jaguars releasing RB Carlos Hyde

The Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing veteran running back Carlos Hyde, multiple outlets reported Friday.

Hyde, 31, is entering the second season of a two-year, $4.5 million contract he signed in March 2021.

The Jaguars will clear more than $1.9 million in salary cap space with the move, according to Spotrac.

Hyde appeared in 12 games (two starts) with Jacksonville in 2021, rushing for 253 yards and one touchdown and catching 12 passes for 65 yards.

A second-round pick by San Francisco in 2014, Hyde has gained 5,846 yards from scrimmage with 40 touchdowns in 102 games (60 starts) with the 49ers, Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks.

Jaguars’ James Robinson (heel) to be questionable vs. Colts

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson will be listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, coach Urban Meyer announced Friday.

Robinson did not participate in practice on Wednesday before being limited in the following day’s session. He is attempting to work his way back from a heel injury that kept him out of Jacksonville’s 9-6 win over the Buffalo Bills last Sunday.

Meyer noted veteran running back Carlos Hyde is expected to play a role on Sunday when the Jaguars (2-6) meet the Colts (4-5) in Indianapolis.

“We’re going to mix in Carlos for sure,” Meyer said of Hyde, who rushed 21 times for 67 yards last week.

Hyde, 31, has 54 carries for 207 rushing yards to go along with nine catches for 60 yards this season.

Robinson, 23, leads the team in carries (88), rushing yards (482) and rushing touchdowns (five). He also has 18 catches for 133 yards in seven games.

Meyer confirmed rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to play on Sunday. Lawrence is working his way past an ankle injury he sustained versus the Bills.

On the season, Lawrence has completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 1,821 yards with eight touchdowns against nine interceptions. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson is inactive for Sunday’s game against the visiting Buffalo Bills.

Backup Carlos Hyde is expected to see an uptick in snaps in place of Robinson, who is nursing a heel injury.

Robinson, who was listed as questionable, did not practice on either Wednesday or Thursday and was limited in Friday’s session.

Robinson, 23, leads the team in carries (88), rushing yards (482) and rushing touchdowns (five). He also has 18 catches for 133 yards for the Jaguars (1-6).

An undrafted free agent, Robinson has rushed for 1,552 yards and 12 touchdowns in 21 career games for the Jaguars.

Hyde, 31, has rushed 33 times for 140 yards in six games this season.

Jaguars’ Carlos Hyde scratched for game at Cincinnati

Jacksonville running back Carlos Hyde was a late scratch for the Jaguars’ Thursday night road game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 31-year-old veteran was listed as inactive by the Jaguars prior to kickoff.

Hyde rushed for 95 yards on 19 carries as a reserve in the team’s first three games. Jacksonville is one of five teams Hyde has played for over the past five seasons after he was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the San Francisco 49ers out of Ohio State.

The Jaguars signed Hyde to a two-year, $4.5 million contract in March. He previously played for the team for eight games in the 2018 season.

Seahawks RBs Carson, Hyde inactive vs. 49ers

Seattle Seahawks running backs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde were listed as inactive for Sunday’s home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Seahawks (5-1) also ruled out safety Jamal Adams, who will miss his fourth consecutive game with a groin injury.

Carson initially was listed as questionable to face the 49ers (4-3). He injured his foot during the first half of Seattle’s 37-34 loss in overtime to Arizona last Sunday.

Carson has 323 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also has three more scores as a receiver.

Hyde, who was listed as doubtful, will not play due to a hamstring injury.

Seattle is expected to rely on Travis Homer and rookie fourth-round pick DeeJay Dallas in the backfield on Sunday.

The Seahawks also ruled out guard Mike Iupati, cornerback Shaquill Griffin, safety Ugo Amadi and defensive end Benson Mayowa.

San Francisco quarterback CJ Beathard, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Richie James, linebacker Kwon Alexander, safety Jaquiski Tartt and cornerback Ken Webster are inactive for Sunday’s contest.
