Report: Bears DT Jenkins (thumb) may land on IR

Chicago Bears defensive tackle John Jenkins reportedly played through Sunday’s win against the New York Giants with a torn ligament in his thumb.

The 31-year-old veteran is expected to miss several games and could be placed on short-term injured reserve, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.

Jenkins has two tackles in two games this season for the Bears (2-0). He tallied 34 tackles and one sack in 16 games (five starts) with the Miami Dolphins last season.

A third-round pick by New Orleans in the 2013 NFL Draft, the well-traveled Jenkins has 157 tackles, seven quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 84 games (28 starts) with the Saints (2013-16), Seattle Seahawks (2016), Bears (2017, 2020), New York Giants (2018) and Dolphins.

Draft Diamonds reported that the Bears had signed defensive tackle Daniel McCullers off the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad.

The 28-year-old McCullers, who was Pittsburgh’s sixth-round pick in 2014, tallied 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 73 games (three starts) with the Steelers from 2014-19.
