Reports: WR Josh Gordon out in Tennessee

The Tennessee Titans are releasing wide receiver Josh Gordon from their practice squad, NFL Network and ESPN reported Monday.

Gordon, 31, was elevated to the 53-man roster for two games (Weeks 2 and 3) and logged 24 snaps on offense without registering any official production stats (receptions, rushing attempts, yards).

The Titans signed Gordon in September after he was released by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gordon posted a farewell to Titans fans on Twitter.

Gordon caught 252 passes for 4,284 yards and 21 touchdowns in 75 games (63 starts) with four teams in his NFL career.

He led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards for the Cleveland Browns in 2013, earning first-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection.

Gordon also has been suspended multiple times for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, including for the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Titans reportedly set to host WR Josh Gordon

Still searching for answers at wide receiver, the Tennessee Titans are set to host free agent Josh Gordon, according to NFL Network.

The Titans, who traded leading receiver AJ Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles and selected Arkansas’ Treylon Burks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, had five receivers on their 53-man roster as of the close of league business Wednesday.

Gordon was released in final cuts by the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday.

He was targeted five times in three preseason games in 2022 and had one reception in 67 total snaps, per NFL statistics.

The Chiefs drafted Skyy Moore and signed JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson in free agency to go along with returning wideout Mecole Hardman. Watson was one of the team’s preseason standouts. Kansas City also traded away its No. 1 receiver, Tyreek Hill, in the offseason.

Gordon caught five passes for 32 yards and one touchdown in sparse playing time with the Chiefs last year.

The 31-year-old was suspended for multiple seasons for violations of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy after earning All-Pro honors with the Cleveland Browns in 2013.

Chiefs cut WR Josh Gordon

Kansas City’s crowded wide receiver room subtracted one notable name on Tuesday when the Chiefs released Josh Gordon.

Gordon announced the move via social media, thanking “Chiefs kingdom” for supporting him and his family.

An influx of wide receivers as Tyreek Hill was shipped to the Miami Dolphins made Gordon’s standing with the team uncertain entering training camp.

Report: Chiefs re-sign WR Josh Gordon for 2022 season

The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed former Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon.

Gordon, who turns 31 next month, announced the move in a tweet Tuesday that read, “KC right where I wanna be! Ain’t gon lie. I’m hype for 2022 #ChiefsKingdom” — with NFL Media later reporting and clarifying his return to the Chiefs for the 2022 season.

Gordon joined the Chiefs in September shortly after the NFL reinstated him from an indefinite suspension he had received in December 2019. Gordon had been banned for violating the league’s rules on substance abuse and performance-enhancers.

Gordon has been suspended six times in his career.

Originally a second-round pick in the 2012 supplemental draft by the Cleveland Browns, Gordon broke through in his second season when he posted career highs with 87 receptions, an NFL-high 1,646 yards and nine touchdown catches. It marked his lone Pro Bowl selection.

Gordon missed two entire seasons to suspension in 2015 and 2016, returned in 2017 and played in Cleveland until 2018. He then suited up for parts of 2018-19 with the New England Patriots before moving on to Seattle for five games in 2019.

He then missed the 2020 season due to multiple suspensions. After joining Kansas City last season, Gordon had five receptions for 32 yards and a score in 12 games (seven starts).

Gordon has 252 career receptions for 4,284 yards and 21 touchdowns in 75 games (63 starts).

Reports: Chiefs elevate WR Josh Gordon to active roster

The Kansas City Chiefs are promoting wide receiver Josh Gordon to the 53-man active roster, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The Chiefs have yet to announce the move as of early Tuesday afternoon. A promotion for Gordon, however, would put him in line to make his season debut on Sunday night when the Chiefs (2-2) host the Buffalo Bills (3-1).

Gordon, 30, signed with the Chiefs late last month, shortly after the NFL reinstated him from an indefinite suspension he received in December 2019. Gordon was suspended for substance abuse and performance-enhancing substance violations.

A subsequent reinstatement in December 2020 lasted only a month — with no on-field appearances — and was rescinded in January 2021.

Gordon entered the league in the 2012 supplemental draft, selected in the second round — No. 1 overall — by the Browns. He played in Cleveland until 2018 — he missed 2015-16 due to suspension — then played parts of 2018-19 with the New England Patriots before moving on to Seattle.

Gordon has 247 career receptions for 4,252 yards with 20 touchdowns in 63 games (56 starts).

Chiefs sign WR Josh Gordon

Recently reinstated wide receiver Josh Gordon is joining the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gordon responded to news of his imminent deal with the AFC championship with a Twitter emoji all but confirming the pact, which comes one day after Kansas City lost to the Los Angeles Chargers to fall to 1-2 this season.

“Time to get to work (dartboard emoji) @ Chiefs,” Gordon posted.

Gordon joins a wide receiver group led by Tyreek Hill but without a clearly defined pecking order among the other receivers. Mecole Hardman had three catches and a touchdown on Sunday but hasn’t been as involved as projected following the departure of Sammy Watkins (Baltimore Ravens).

Gordon, 30, is vaccinated against COVID-19 and said to be ready to play. He has been subject to random drug testing.

The NFL reinstated Gordon last Friday.

“We are grateful that the NFL appreciates the work that Josh put in and now he has earned another opportunity to be part of this league, said Zac Hiller, Gordon’s new agent, to ESPN. “We are proud of Josh, and I know all the fans can’t wait to see him on Sundays.”

While with the Seattle Seahawks in December 2019, Gordon was given an indefinite suspension for substance abuse and performance-enhancing substance violations.

It marked Gordon’s sixth suspension since the 2013 season.

A subsequent reinstatement in December 2020 lasted only a month — with no on-field appearances — and was rescinded in January 2021.

ESPN’s report said Gordon had a setback in his recovery.

Report: NFL reinstates WR Josh Gordon from suspension

The NFL is reinstating Josh Gordon, and the wide receiver could return to action as soon as Week 4, ESPN reported Friday.

Earlier this summer, he sent a letter to commissioner Roger Goodell, asking to be reinstated.

Ten days ago, ESPN reported that the NFL Players Association reviewed Gordon’s case and found that the former All-Pro had successfully completed his mandated treatment program. The union recommended his reinstatement.

Gordon, 30, is vaccinated against COVID-19 and said to be ready to play. He has been subject to random drug testing.

He will be a free agent.

“We are grateful that the NFL appreciates the work that Josh put in and now he has earned another opportunity to be part of this league, said Zac Hiller, Gordon’s new agent, to ESPN. “We are proud of Josh, and I know all the fans can’t wait to see him on Sundays.”

Report: Wide receiver Josh Gordon seeking NFL reinstatement

Wide receiver Josh Gordon is hopeful of another chance in the NFL and has sent a letter to commissioner Roger Goodell, according to an ESPN report, requesting reinstatement.

The report added that, for the past three months, Gordon has been subject to random drug testing by the NFL and has passed those tests.

Gordon, 30, was selected in the 2012 supplemental draft. He would be a free agent if he is reinstated by the NFL.

While with the Seattle Seahawks in December 2019, he was given an indefinite suspension for substance abuse and performance-enhancing substance violations.

Gordon played with Johnny Manziel, his former teammate with the Cleveland Browns, in the Fan Controlled Football league.

According to his player page at the team site — Gordon played for the Zappers — he caught seven passes for 100 yards.

Report: WR Josh Gordon signs with FCF league

Former NFL wide receiver Josh Gordon has found a new team — the Zappers of the Fan Controlled Football league, team owner Bob Menery told ESPN on Saturday.

Gordon will join Johnny Manziel — his former teammate on the Cleveland Browns — on a squad that competes in a 7-on-7 game in which fans set the rosters and call plays in a league that combines traditional football with esports.

The FCF league is amid a six-week season and its games, which are held on a field 50-by-35 yards with a 10-yard end zone, are live-streamed on Twitch from a facility in Atlanta.

The league’s players are from the FBS and FCS college levels, along with the CFL, XFL and the Indoor Football League, though the Heisman Trophy-winning Manziel is the league’s biggest name.

In January, Gordon, who was with the Seattle Seahawks, was suspended indefinitely after the NFL rescinded his conditional reinstatement and he was removed from the roster. Gordon violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, which caused for his reinstatement to be revoked, according to ESPN.

Gordon, who had signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks prior to the 2020 season, was reinstated this past December, but he didn’t play this past season. He has been suspended six times since the 2013 season.

Gordon has 247 catches for 4,252 yards and 20 touchdowns in 63 NFL games.

The Browns took him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft out of Baylor.

In his second year in the NFL in 2013, Gordon became the first Browns player to lead the NFL in receiving yards, finishing with a team-record 1,646 yards on 87 receptions. He also was the first receiver to amass more than 200 yards receiving in consecutive games, which he did against the Jaguars and Steelers, that season en route to being named first-team All-Pro.

He played in five games the following season before he was suspended for the next two seasons for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He returned to the Browns in 2017 and hasn’t posted more than 737 yards in a season since 2018, as his career also included a stop in New England.
