Chiefs S Justin Reid kicks PAT in preseason game

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid successfully kicked an extra point during Saturday’s preseason opener against the host Chicago Bears.

His PAT with 20 seconds remaining in the first half gave the Chiefs a 14-0 lead at intermission. Kicker Harrison Butker converted the PAT after Kansas City’s first touchdown of the game.

Reid’s kicking skills went viral earlier this week with a video of him nailing a 65-yard field goal off a tee during a training camp practice.

Reid, 25, also handled the kickoff duties for the Houston Texans in last season’s final preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A third-round pick by Texans in 2018, Reid has recorded 315 tackles, seven interceptions and two sacks in 57 games (53 starts) in four seasons with the Texans. He signed a free-agent deal with the Chiefs on March 18.

Report: Texans’ Justin Reid inactive for violating team rules

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid was listed as inactive Sunday against the visiting New York Jets as a disciplinary measure for violating team rules, multiple media outlets reported.

Texans coach David Culley previously deactivated defensive back Desmond King for a violation of team rules. He also forced linebacker Zach Cunningham to sit out the first quarter of a game for the same reason.

Reid, 24, has recorded 42 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble in nine games this season.

A.J. Moore and Terrence Brooks are options to play opposite Eric Murray on Sunday against the Jets (2-8).

Fellow defensive back Cre’Von LeBlanc, quarterback Deshaun Watson, tight end Jeff Driskel, wide receiver Davion Davis and tight end Jordan Akins were also listed as inactive Sunday for the Texans (2-8).

Texans activate RB Johnson, lose two starters on D

The Houston Texans activated running back David Johnson from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

He landed on the list last Friday and missed Sunday’s 36-7 loss at Chicago.

Houston (4-9) also placed two defensive starters on season-ending injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game at Indianapolis (9-4).

Defensive tackle Brandon Dunn (pelvic fracture) and safety Justin Reid (torn thumb ligament) had both started all 13 games before getting hurt in the loss to the Bears.

Dunn, 28, contributed 26 tackles, three quarterback hits and one fumble recovery this season.

Reid, 23, had surgery on Tuesday. The 2018 third-round pick had 83 tackles, four passes defensed and two sacks.
