Affidavit: Chiefs’ Rashee Rice drove 119 mph before six-car crash

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice was driving 119 mph before causing a six-vehicle crash on March 30 on a Dallas highway, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News.

Rice’s Lamborghini Urus reached 119 mph 4.5 seconds before the collision, according to the affidavit. A Chevrolet Corvette driven by SMU cornerback Teddy Knox was traveling 116 mph 7.5 seconds before the collision before slowing to 91 1.5 seconds before the crash.

The crash on the North Central Expressway (U.S. 75) left at least seven people with injuries.

The two cars “made multiple aggressive maneuvers to get through traffic,” the affidavit said.

Rice and four other men were seen leaving the scene of the crash without seeing if any of the injured needed help.

Rice is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury, according to police.

Rice turned himself into police on Thursday and was later released on bond. On April 3, he said he took “full responsibility” for his actions.

Knox has been suspended by the SMU football team. He turned himself in on Friday and faces the same charges as Rice, his former SMU teammate.

According to the affidavit, one woman who was injured in the crash sustained injuries to her head, neck and back. The woman told the Dallas Morning News that she was stranded on the highway with her 4-year-old son for about five hours after the crash.

Among the other injuries, the affidavit listed one person as having sustained “seriously bodily injury” to her face, head, torso and leg. The report said she also had post-concussion symptoms, including headaches, extreme light and sound sensitivity and brain fog.

She will be dealing with “a life of limited mobility and sight for an undetermined, extended period of time while she seeks treatment,” the affidavit said.

Rice, who turns 24 on April 22, grew up in the North Texas suburb of North Richland Hills.

He recorded 79 catches and 938 yards with a team-leading seven touchdown receptions in 16 games (eight starts) after being selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He also had 26 catches for 262 yards and a score in four playoff games to help the Chiefs secure their second straight Super Bowl title.

Bills place TE Dawson Knox (wrist) on IR

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox was placed on injured reserve prior to Thursday night’s home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Knox underwent wrist surgery on Tuesday. He will miss at least four games.

Knox initially injured the wrist in a Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 26-year-old has 15 receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown this season.

Tight end Quintin Morris (ankle) also will miss the game, leaving rookie Dalton Kincaid as Buffalo’s main tight end.

Knox has 164 receptions for 1,882 yards and 21 touchdowns in 64 career games (54 starts) over five seasons.

Buffalo elevated veteran cornerback Josh Norman and receiver Andy Isabella from the practice squad prior to Thursday’s game. Neither player has appeared in a game this season.

Norman, a first-team All-Pro in 2015, has 16 career interceptions in 137 games (110 starts) while playing for four teams (including Buffalo) over the past 11 seasons. Isabella has 33 receptions for 447 yards and three touchdowns in 41 games (three starts) for the Arizona Cardinals (2019-22) and Baltimore Ravens (2022).

Buffalo’s inactives for the contest include Morris and linebacker Baylon Spector (hamstring). The others are safety Damar Hamlin, cornerback Kaiir Elam (ankle), guard Germain Ifedi and tackle Alec Anderson.

Star defensive tackle Ed Oliver (toe) is set to play.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (knee) and wide receiver Chris Godwin (neck) have been cleared to play. Both were listed as questionable.

Tampa Bay’s inactives include defensive tackle Vita Vea (groin), guard Matt Feiler (knee) and safety Kaevon Merriweather (ankle). The others are defensive lineman Patrick O’Connor, running back Sean Tucker, outside linebacker Markees Watts and tight end David Wells.

Bills TE Dawson Knox could hit IR after wrist surgery

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox could be headed for injured reserve following wrist surgery.

The team plans to establish a timeframe for his potential return following the procedure. Head coach Sean McDemott said Tuesday the team would know more about Knox’s status in the coming days, but it’s possible he is headed toward injured reserve.

“I wish I could tell you, too early right now,” McDermott said.

Knox injured his wrist Week 5 in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. He was a limited participant in practice all week leading up to Week 6 but was cleared to play and caught three passes for 17 yards in the 14-9 win over the New York Giants.

First-round pick Dalton Kincaid will step into a more prominent role immediately, beginning Thursday night when the Bills (4-3) and quarterback Josh Allen host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3). He had a team-high eight receptions for 75 yards last week against the New England Patriots.

“It’s good to see him getting going and getting a rapport with Josh,” McDermott said. “I think that can help us as we move forward.”

Kincaid is second on the team in receptions, catching 25 of the 27 passes intended for him.

Knox had one reception for 10 yards in Sunday’s loss at New England and has 15 catches for 102 yards and one touchdown through Buffalo’s first seven games this season.

Bills LB Matt Milano, DT DaQuan Jones need surgery

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday that two defensive starters, linebacker Matt Milano (leg) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (torn pec), will require surgery.

McDermott was not ready to rule either player out for the rest of the season at this point.

Both players were hurt Sunday in the Bills’ 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Milano appeared to have his right leg caught in a pile of players early in the game. He had to be helped off the field and was ruled out with what the team called a knee injury.

Milano, 29, was a Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro selection in 2022. He had 30 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble over five starts this year before his injury.

Jones, 31, had 2.5 sacks in five games to start the season.

McDermott also revealed that tight end Dawson Knox has a wrist injury and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid entered concussion protocol after Sunday’s game.

The Bills will sign former All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman to their practice squad, according to the NFL Network.

Norman, 35, played in two games (one start) in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers, for whom he began his NFL career in 2012 as a fifth-round pick. He also has played for Washington (2016-19), Buffalo (2020) and San Francisco (2021).

He played in nine games (three starts) for the Bills and collected 24 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble and two fumble returns.

Three Bills players added to Pro Bowl roster

Three additional Buffalo Bills players were added to the Pro Bowl roster Monday as replacements.

Left tackle Dion Dawkins and tight end Dawson Knox are replacing Orlando Brown and Travis Kelce of the Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs.

Left guard Rodger Saffold replaces Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson, who is unable to participate due to an injury.

It is the second straight Pro Bowl appearance for Dawkins and Saffold and the first for Knox.

Dawkins started 15 games, Saffold started 16 in his first season with Buffalo, and Knox caught 48 passes for 517 yards and six touchdowns in 15 starts.

The reinvented Pro Bowl Games, including a flag football contest, will take place from Thursday through Sunday in Las Vegas.

Bills S Jordan Poyer, TE Dawson Knox out vs. Steelers

Injuries are denting the Buffalo secondary yet again with the Bills set to play the Pittsburgh Steelers without two of their top defensive backs.

Safety Jordan Poyer was ruled out on Friday with a rib injury. Poyer had two interceptions of Lamar Jackson to lead the Bills’ No. 1-ranked pass defense to victory over the Ravens.

In addition to Poyer, cornerback Christian Benford (hand) and tight end Dawson Knox (foot, hamstring) won’t suit up for Buffalo (3-1) in Week 5.

Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed their availability on Friday, but said pass rusher Von Miller was back at practice.

Pittsburgh (1-3) is turning the offense over to rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett in his first career start. Pickett replaced Mitchell Trubisky last week and scored two touchdowns on the ground but was intercepted three times.

Reports: Bills, TE Dawson Knox finalize 4-year, $53.6M extension

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox agreed to a four-year contract extension on the eve of the NFL season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

Multiple reports placed the value of the deal at $53.6 million through the 2026 season. His deal was set to expire at the end of the 2022 season.

Knox, 25, receives $31 million guaranteed according to the Buffalo News but will play the 2022 season under the terms of his existing deal at a salary of $2.51 million.

He caught 49 passes for 587 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021, career-best production by a wide margin in his third NFL season. Knox has 101 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns in 42 regular-season games.

The Bills selected Knox in the third round of the 2019 draft out of Ole Miss.

Bills TE Dawson Knox (hand) set to return vs. Jets

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox is slated to return to action Sunday against the New York Jets after a two-game absence due to a hand injury.

Knox underwent surgery to repair a fracture in the right hand that he injured against the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 18.

The 24-year-old was a full practice participant on Thursday and Friday.

Knox has a team-leading five touchdown receptions and has 21 catches for 286 yards in six games.

“He’s a guy that’s big, powerful, strong, fast and obviously he’s made some plays for us this year,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said. “We’re going to need him to continue to make plays for us if we want to be successful.”

Buffalo will be without a key cog in middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (hamstring). Edmunds, who has a team-high 55 tackles, didn’t practice all week and was ruled out on Friday.

Running back Zack Moss (concussion) is listed as questionable.

Right tackle Spencer Brown (back) is set to go after sitting out two games, including last Sunday’s 9-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bills trample hapless Texans

Josh Allen found Dawson Knox for two touchdown passes Sunday and the Buffalo Bills’ defense overwhelmed the Houston Texans in a 40-0 rout in Orchard Park, N.Y.

Allen completed 20 of 29 passes for 248 yards with an interception as Buffalo (3-1) won its third straight game and stayed atop the AFC East. The Bills have outscored Miami, Washington and Houston by a combined 118-21.

Their defense was far too much for rookie quarterback Davis Mills, making his second NFL start. Mills hit on 11 of 21 passes for just 87 yards, tossing four interceptions and finishing with a QB rating of 23.4.

The Texans (1-3) actually could have taken a short field goal lead than five minutes into the game to grab an early lead, but opted to go for it on fourth-and-3 at the Buffalo 6, four plays after Lonnie Johnson intercepted Allen and returned it 32 yards to the 13.

The gamble didn’t pay off as Allen’s pass for David Johnson fell incomplete. Houston only got into Bills territory twice more after that, but Mills’ interceptions finished both possessions.

Buffalo got the only points it would need with 1:59 left in the first quarter when Allen pump-faked and hit Knox over the middle for a 25-yard touchdown. It was the third straight game the duo had connected for a score.

Bass made it 16-0 at halftime with second-quarter field goals of 33, 26 and 21 yards. That the Bills couldn’t score touchdowns in the red zone was of little consequence because their defense squashed everything Houston tried.

Another Bass field goal, a 28-yarder with 8:49 left in the third quarter, upped the advantage to 19-0. Buffalo turned it into a rout with three fourth quarter touchdowns.

Allen found Knox for a 1-yard scoring strike with 13:29 left, followed by a 4-yard touchdown run by Zack Moss. Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky capped the scoring by running for a 4-yard touchdown with 3:36 remaining.
