Cardinals release CB Trayvon Mullen

The Arizona Cardinals released cornerback Trayvon Mullen on Tuesday.

The move comes a day after Mullen played a season-high 42 defensive snaps for the Cardinals in Monday night’s loss to the New England Patriots.

The Cardinals traded a conditional seventh-round pick to acquire Mullen from Las Vegas in August. The pick back to the Raiders remains a seventh-rounder; the 2023 pick would have become a sixth-rounder had Mullen played two more games.

Mullen, 25, has 13 tackles, one pass defensed and one forced fumble in eight games (zero starts) for Arizona this season.

The Raiders selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft.

Reports: Cardinals acquire CB Trayvon Mullen from Raiders

The Arizona Cardinals acquired cornerback Trayvon Mullen from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2023, ESPN and NFL Network reported.

The pick could become a sixth-rounder based on Mullen’s playing time, per the reports.

Mullen, 24, has 134 tackles and four interceptions in 37 career games (31 starts) for the Raiders, who selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft. He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal.

The Cardinals shore up a position that is young and ranked 24th in team coverage in 2021, according to Pro Football Focus. Offseason signee Jeff Gladney died in a car accident in May.
