Bills place LB Matt Milano, DT DaQuan Jones on injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills made it official Wednesday, placing linebacker Matt Milano (lower right leg) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (torn pectoral muscle) on injured reserve.

Coach Sean McDermott had said Monday that both defensive starters will require surgery, and Wednesday told reporters “the door hasn’t been shut” on either player returning this season.

Buffalo signed veteran linebacker A.J. Klein to the active roster from the practice squad, added defensive tackle Andrew Brown to the practice squad and designated linebacker Baylon Spector to return from the IR.

Both Milano and Jones were hurt Sunday in the Bills’ 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Milano appeared to have his right leg caught in a pile of players early in the game. He had to be helped off the field and was ruled out with what the team called a knee injury.

Milano, 29, was a Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro selection in 2022. He had 30 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble over five starts this year before his injury.

Jones, 31, had 2.5 sacks in five games to start the season.

Klein, 32, played parts of three seasons with Buffalo from 2020-22, totaling 37 games (16 starts), 110 tackles, one interception, five sacks and two forced fumbles.

He made his NFL debut in 2013 with the Carolina Panthers as a fifth-round draft pick, and also has played for the New Orleans Saints (2017-19), Chicago Bears (2022) and Baltimore Ravens (2022).

The Bills also announced that tight ends Dalton Kincaid (concussion) and Dawson Knox (wrist) as well as defensive end Greg Rousseau (foot) were limited in practice Wednesday.

Cornerback Christian Benford (shoulder) had a full practice, while cornerback Dane Jackson (foot) did not practice.

Bills LB Matt Milano, DT DaQuan Jones need surgery

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday that two defensive starters, linebacker Matt Milano (leg) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (torn pec), will require surgery.

McDermott was not ready to rule either player out for the rest of the season at this point.

Both players were hurt Sunday in the Bills’ 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Milano appeared to have his right leg caught in a pile of players early in the game. He had to be helped off the field and was ruled out with what the team called a knee injury.

Jones, 31, had 2.5 sacks in five games to start the season.

McDermott also revealed that tight end Dawson Knox has a wrist injury and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid entered concussion protocol after Sunday’s game.

The Bills will sign former All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman to their practice squad, according to the NFL Network.

Norman, 35, played in two games (one start) in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers, for whom he began his NFL career in 2012 as a fifth-round pick. He also has played for Washington (2016-19), Buffalo (2020) and San Francisco (2021).

He played in nine games (three starts) for the Bills and collected 24 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble and two fumble returns.

Bills starting DT DaQuan Jones inactive vs. Bengals

Buffalo Bills starting defensive tackle DaQuan Jones was listed as inactive for Sunday’s AFC divisional round playoff game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.

Jones, 31, was limited in practice all week and listed as questionable for the game with a calf injury.

He recorded 38 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery in 16 games (all starts) this season.

Fellow defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is active for the game after he sat out last week’s win against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury.

In addition to Jones, the Bills listed the following players as inactive: cornerback Christian Benford, offensive lineman Ike Boettger, tight end Tommy Sweeney, linebackers Terrel Bernard and Baylon Spector and safety Jared Mayden.

As for the Bengals, right guard Alex Cappa (ankle) and left tackle Jonah Williams (dislocated kneecap) were ruled out on Friday due to their respective injuries. Max Scharping is expected to start in place of Cappa, while Jackson Carman will get the nod at left tackle.

Bills sign LB Von Miller, two others

The Buffalo Bills made a splash in free agency on Wednesday by signing eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miler to a six-year deal.

The NFL Network reported that Miller’s deal is worth $120 million.

Buffalo also announced the signings of tight end O.J. Howard to a one-year deal and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones to a two-year deal.

After spending the first nine years of his career with the Denver Broncos, Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Rams midway through this past season and was part of the Rams’ team that defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl.

In eight regular-season games with the Rams, Miller had five sacks and eight QB hits. He nearly matched those numbers in the playoffs, tallying four sacks and seven QB hits in four games. Two of those sacks came in the Super Bowl as the Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals, giving Miller the second championship ring of his career.

Miller, 32, ranks 22nd all-time in career sacks (115.5) and seventh all-time in tackles for losses (154). He was MVP of Super Bowl 50 when the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers.

Howard, 27, was on the injured reserve when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in 2021, but he’s proven to be a playmaker at the tight end position. In 59 games — 46 of them starts — Howard has hauled in 119 catches for 1,737 yards and 15 touchdowns in his five-year career.

Jones, 30. has started 110 of 116 games played during his eight-year career. He has 273 tackles, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles with the Tennessee Titans (2014-20) and Carolina Panthers (2021).
The Bills lost in the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs last season, 42-36, in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Panthers sign veteran DT DaQuan Jones to 1-year deal

The Carolina Panthers signed veteran defensive tackle DaQuan Jones to a one-year deal on Tuesday.

Jones, 29, started all 16 games in five of the last six seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

A fourth-round pick by Tennessee in 2014, Jones has 235 tackles, nine sacks, 26 quarterback hits and two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown) in 99 career games (93 starts).

With the Panthers, Jones fills a void created by the offseason departures of Kawann Short and Zach Kerr.
